Let me be clear: I use one sunscreen a day. But I am currently using multiple different ones. Some are almost empty as we speak, so I can give you a really good review of the pros and cons!
At this point I am using these four: Clarins Dry Touch Sun Care Cream, Lancaster Sun Beauty, Caudalíe Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare, and the Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense.
Sunscreen 1: Clarins Dry Touch Sun Care Cream
I bought this on holiday late last year and I immediately liked it! It has a pleasant smell, I do feel like I smell some alcohol. When looking deeper into the ingredient list there is some denatured alcohol, but it’s pretty low on the list! I don’t mind it and it does not dry out my skin. In better news it also has two types of vitamin E, which is a great anti-oxidant and it has Aloe vera juice in it. This is calming and soothing of course.
I personally really like this sunscreen, because I somehow have the feeling it beautifies my skin? Like it just looks fresh and awake. I don’t see that in the promises of the product, but for me it works! I will definitely buy this again.
Price: €31,00 // $33.00
Sunscreen 2: Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense.
This one is the newest to me, but I already love it. It gives that same beautifying effect on my skin. It also has denatured alcohol, but a whole lot higher on the list than the Clarins one. Weird thing is, I don’t smell it in this one. Maybe because the Clarins one is older? This one also contains Vitamin E. Plus it contains Adenosine which aids in wound healing, repairs the skin barrier function, and therefore also protects it.
I feel like this Kiehl’s one and the Clarins one are pretty similar, but the Kiehl’s packaging is easier and I think it absorbs a little bit faster. Small differences to be honest. By the way, these two sunscreens have 14(!) ingredients the same, so maybe that’s the reason I find them quite similar.
Price: €35,00 // $38.00
Sunscreen 3: Caudalíe Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare
Ahh, another good option! I was really rolling out the hits this year with my choices. Just kidding, the next one I am not a fan. But this Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare SPF 50 is so good! It’s a creamy texture, which takes a minute to settle into your skin but really nourishes it! I took this with me to literally the hottest week I have ever experienced (in Italy) and I had zero sunburn! It also smells like frangipani, which I wasn’t really familiar with but it’s so good!
It features two types of anti-oxidants: their famous Vitis Vinifera grape juice and vitamin E. Also it contains soothing Jojoba esters, which makes your skin feel soft!
The only thing is when you layer multiple serums for the day and then day cream and then this SPF it might be a bit too much. There have been some instances where it pilled on my face, but not every time! So I think it really depends on what you are using as well. If you are into a full face of makeup daily, I don’t think this is the one for you.
Price: €20,00 // $22.00*
Sunscreen 4: Lancaster Sun Beauty
Whah, so good Romina, you did not take a photo of the Lancaster on its own. Well, sorry about that. You can still see it in the picture below though!
Maybe the reason I forgot is that this is my least favorite one of the four. But I spent my money on it and it’s not horrible so I try to keep using it.
First thing: it reaks of alcohol. It’s not subtle and it doesn’t have another smell to it, it’s just alcohol. I bought this Lancaster one, because Lancaster is supposed to be THE sun protection brand.
I should’ve know after trying their SPF with a colour in it that it’s no good for me. That one was btw pretty damn horrible, you could only apply so little without looking like an oompa-loompa and my skin burned so bad that day! I don’t even go into sun really.. So that’s bad. But that’s not what this blog post is about, just wanted to warn you.
Getting back to this Lancaster sunscreen, well first of the smell is pretty off-putting to me. The fact that it was recommended in a fancy-ass store as the best one, kind of made me mad. I mean that’s to no fault of Lancaster, but still the experience wasn’t that good. When you apply it on your face it feels very cool, which is slightly weird but can be enjoyable. It didn’t really pill on my face, so that’s good! However it did make my skin look too shiny and it might have worsened by blackheads, but I am not sure! The greasy look just really increases how blackheads are perceived I guess.
Price: €31,95 // $36.00**
I hope you enjoyed this blogpost! I really have been wanting to try the Ordinary SPF, but they are always unavailable! Also the GOOP ones are on my list to try! Do you have any recommendations or favorites I should try?
