It is finally time for an elaborate review on this Clarins day cream. Or to be more precise the “My Clarins RE-BOOST comforting Hydrating Cream”. This is a fairly new line of Clarins, which is directed at a younger and hipper audience. Which you can instantly see when you compare the My Clarins RE-BOOST & the “old” Clarins line. So literally they re-boosted their line, without getting rid of the old. BUT all of that does not matter. I am here to tell you all my thoughts on this day cream.
Price & Variation My clarins Re-boost
The My Clarins RE-Boost day cream retails for $27 / €25. It’s not cheap, but compared to the mother line of Clarins it is pretty cheap! There are a few variations, I will list them below.
Refreshing Hydrating Cream – For normal skin
Comforting Hydrating Cream – For dry and sensitive skin
Matifying Hydrating Cream – For combination to oily skin
So I have the variation for dry and sensitive skin, to be honest, my skin is not that sensitive but the dry part appealed to me more than the normal skin one. I, however, did kind of swatch them on my hand and noticed a similar texture/feel/smell.
I am just going to past what Clarins has to say about it here:
Keep skin happy and healthy all day with our RE-BOOST Comforting Hydrating Cream, designed to nourish, energise and soothe your skin. Our best hydrating face cream for dry and sensitive skin features our new Healthy Skin [In & Out] complex. This includes organic coconut water to feed skin and Alpenrose extract to banish any nasty toxins. All you have to do is get up and glow.
Sounds pretty good right? Give the marketing interns that had to redraft this a gazillion times a round of applause! Just kidding. Or not. That intern life can be rough.
Basically a cute jar, that is insanely heavy for how small it is but practical. The inside of the lid doesn’t get all gross on you after a few uses, or ever actually so that is nice. However the circumference of the jar opening is smaller than the bottom part of the jar, so I think it will be quite tricky to get the last bits out of it. Not there yet, but kind of an impractical aspect I am not looking forward to.
I used the My Clarins RE-BOOST for a few months now, almost daily, except for vacations because damn that little jar is HEAVY. I wanted to review this properly so therefore it has taken me a long time to properly make up my mind. Here it goes in a very organized way. At least I think it’s organized.
Smell – it smells exactly like D&G L’imperatice, which is one of my favourite scents. Very feminine, and to be honest I don’t mind a smell in my day cream. However, if you don’t – avoid this!! The smell does wear off, it doesn’t linger.
Structure – weird but in a good way. I really had to get used to the texture, it has a kind of souffle feeling to it but somewhat grainier.
Application – it goes on very smoothly, I do feel like I have to use quite some product to cover my entire face, more than usual. Or my face is just big. Probably both.
Nourishing – I feel like this is a very nourishing, moisturizing product. But it’s not the most moisturizing product if you get what I mean.
Makeup/ Pilling – okay, this was a bit tricky. If you use it with a light serum underneath and then this day cream and then SPF and then make-up you are fine. No pilling whatsoever. But when I used this with all the steps above but with a face oil in between, it did not look good. It started pilling right away. So you kind of want to avoid layering too many layers if you are wearing make-up as well.
Ingredients RE-BOOST Comforting Hydrating Cream
Okay, so it is a big list, and probably not that interesting to see so I decided to just tell you the pros, cons and/or interesting stuff. If you want to see the full ingredient list, scroll all the way down!
Pros and/or interesting stuff.
First of all, it contains a but load of emollients, so that’s always nice if you have dry skin.
It contains Tocopherol, which is an anti-oxidant and super good for your skin!
ContainS Shea butter which is also an anti-oxidant, skin-soothing and very emollient.
It also features Cocos Nucifere Fruit Juice, and the fruit juice interested me the most because I’ve haven’t seen that in a lot of products. And this ingredient, as to my understanding, is loaded with many nourishing parts that support the hydration of your skin and even cell growth! Also, this study showed that it increased skin elasticity more than 30%. This of course depends on how much, the study said 1%, but here it’s also quite high in the ingredient list so I believe it is maybe even more than 1% in this My Clarins Re-Boost cream.
It contains perfume, and pretty high up in the list as well. I don’t mind this though, I like it. It has 5 preservatives, which is not an insane amount of preservative but still, there are creams with less. And it also contains Citric acid, which can be a skin sensitizer.
YAY OR NAY?
I am not going to claim that this cream is going to change or life, or that it is the best day cream ever. BUT I do enjoy this a lot, and I will finish it up with pleasure. I personally love the smell, and the texture (because I am not that into gel creams). It does help with dry skin, but if you have severely dry skin, this will not be enough I think.
Overall, I say YAY. Yay for a reasonable price, a pretty packaging, some really good ingredients.
However, if you dislike scented stuff, preservatives or have crazy sensitive skin I would advise you to go for a different day cream. Clinique has nice creams for sensitive skin, I love their moisture surge 72-hour day cream or try something by Neutragena.
Ps: Maybe you will like this post as well I wrote on my favourite Clinique product.
