My morning skincare routine is probably the only routine I am quite consistent in. There are certain steps I will do every single day, without fail. Whereas in my evening routine I can become a bit lazier, but I’m working on that!
Today I thought I would share with you my skincare morning routine and give some quick info on the products I use. I think I have a nice mix of budget-friendly and not so budget-friendly products in here!
First off, let me tell you the steps I rarely or never forget in my morning skincare routine. First is a serum, I feel like a (moisturizing) serum really adds to my skin instead of just a moisturizer. That being said, the next is a moisturizer, when I wash my skin it is DRY! I hate that feeling so I never skip moisturizer. And the last step I never fail to skip is SPF of 50, I will show you the one I am using the most right now. I am however in the process of writing a blogpost on my sunscreens!
My Morning Skincare Routine
Step 1: Cleanse
Right now I am really enjoying the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I notice a difference in my skin right away, it goes from slightly dull to pretty fresh in a few seconds! Most of the times I will not use micellar water or toner in the morning. I feel like micellar water is not very necessary. The toner I have right now is one with acids in it and because it is summertime, I prefer to use it at night. FYI: after using an acid you have to use SPF, therefore in summer I tend to skip it in the morning just to be a little bit safer.
Step 2: Serum
I usually go about using 2 serums a day, starting with the lightest formula. If I am only using one serum I will usually grab the Sephora C+E. The ones I really enjoy right now are the following:
Sephora C+E Ultra Glow Serum
This has been my most recent grab and go serum, it moisturizes my skin and makes it feel nice and supple. I love that it has vitamin C with an addition of vitamin E, which is known to enhance the potency of vitamin C. I mean, I am going to tell you multiple times: vitamin C is important and I just wrote a blog post about it. Also, this serum is not too expensive, I paid €20. But I can imagine that Sephora items are way cheaper in the US. I wish I could reach the US website from here…
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Talking about affordability, this serum is super cheap! It costs €5,90 // $6.49. I love this serum mainly because it is so good to combat blackheads! It regulates the sebum production in your skin and minimizes the appearance of pores. I will switch on and off with using this one, and I can really tell the difference!
REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot
Okay, this I only have in a tester size (well a big tester size), but a little goes a long way! This serum literally does what it says: it’s a beauty shot. It gives a plumping feel to your skin. I specifically feel like it keeps the moisture in my skin, or adds moisture. I couldn’t tell the difference to be honest. There are only a few ingredients in this moisturizer, but it just works!
It’s not cheap though, a full-size costs €49,00 // $54.00
Step 3: Vitamin C
Okay, this is not an everyday thing. On the days I am not using the Sephora vitamin C+E serum I will try to use the Inkey List Vitamin C. I say try, because this is kind of a weird product, it’s an almost pure ascorbic acid and I feel it needs some time to sink in. I usually have a little pause after this for about 5/10 min, you know have some breakfast before I continue with my skincare morning routine. You don’t need such a high strength vitamin C by the way, about 20% is more than enough!
If you want to know more about it: check out my blogpost on vitamin C, I go into this a bit deeper!
Step 4: Moisturize
I always kind of used two moisturizers on top of each other. I know it’s weird, but my skin just did not feel fully moisturized. With this REN Global Protection Day Cream, I don’t really have to do that anymore. Only after a very long shower, I will still layer moisturizer. I wrote a whole blog post on this day cream and I will link it here.
Step 5: SPF
SPF! SPF! SPF! It is so important to wear SPF and I have been doing so for about 4/5 years. Not only does it protect your skin from sunburn but also from collagen degradation (aka wrinkles!). I always go for SPF of 50, and I advise you to do the same! Together with the addition of vitamin C (and E) this will protect your skin against free radicals, the sun and ROS (reactive oxygen species).
I am currently using the Kiehl’s Ultra Light UV Defense SPF and this one is so good! It absorbs quickly into your skin and does not make it greasy whatsoever. It also contains some vitamin E, which is always a good addition!
Morning Skincare Routine Tips
I just want to quickly tell you what would be best to have into your skincare routine in the morning. You don’t have to listen of course.
The most important thing is SPF, whether it is summer or winter. But to fair, summer is a little bit more important as you’ll be more likely to get a sunburn.
Add in a serum. What kind of serum is totally up to you, I enjoy using something with vitamin C as our skin gets depleted from this and it’s such a good protectant! But if you are more acne-prone, maybe you want to try a lactic acid. I personally can recommend the lactic acid from The Ordinary.
If you want some extra protection against skin aging, I would go for retinol. Just make sure to start at a very low dose and build up your tolerance! By the way, don’t use retinol when pregnant or breastfeeding. Again, the Ordinary has a really good one I can definitely recommend.
If you want to combat blackhead, the niacinamide one I use is amazing! Okay, enough recommendations! I might do a whole blog post on this in the future because I can keep going forever.
I hope you enjoyed this blogpost! Thank you for reading <3
